How to update Netgear security update

Updating the firmware of the Netgear wireless router is quite an important task as it can definitely help in improving the device’s efficiency and performance. The Netgear security or firmware update can be done through either of the two methods available.

1.  Open the web browser and enter the web address routerlogin.net or the default IP 192.168.1.1
2.  Enter the login username and password of the router for which you have the default values as “admin” and “password”.
3.  Now look out for the Advanced>Administration tab and select it.
4. Then click the router update or firmware update and click the check button which will search for any available firmware updates. 
5. Click “Yes, download and install” when prompted and the router’s firmware update process will be started itself.

Note- The router after getting updated will restart itself, just make sure that this restart at the end of the process is not interrupted in any case as it can corrupt the firmware of your Netgear router. The user is also advised to update the firmware of their Netgear wireless router as soon as possible after its release.

How do I recover the admin password on my Netgear router?

• Open the web browser and enter this web address www.routerlogin.net in the URL bar of the browser and hit enter and login window will appear. 
  
• Click the cancel button and if you have enabled the password recovery option earlier, you will be asked to enter the device’s serial number. 
• The serial number of your device is printed on the label pasted under the router’s body. 
• After the correct serial number has been entered, another screen will appear asking for the answers of the security questions. Just answer them correctly. 
• Click “continue” tab and the consecutive window will display your router’s login password.

Can I change my Netgear router’s admin login username?

No, you cannot change your router’s login username. You can only change your Netgear Nighthawk XR700’s login password only. Additionally, note that this password that you are setting up should include the special characters, numerals and upper-lower case both letters.
